To Lori , My search was over the day I Met you !!

First line in the first page prompted me to read the entire book "GOOGLE story" from top to bottom and not able to keep the book down even my eyes and body want to sleep.

Wow what an amazing book. Two PHD Kids Lori and Sergey from the Stanford University Microsoft foundation block later challenged the giant with an innovation.

Yahoo and Alta vista rejected the Google search engine for 1 MUSD offer prompted them to drop their PHD studies and start their own company and the rest is history.

"I am going to download the entire web in to my desktop" an idea from Lori and sergey Mathematical formula for the Page rank made Google search engine as the world most popular search engine.

I would like to give the Gist of this book, the entire story is like a drama with lot of emotions involved in it. Charlie Ayer executive chef part is touched me a lot, they were around 5000 Tshirts printed with his name, when he left the Google to start his own restaurant and he has also given some stock option by these nice guys.

The key to success is, they don’t know how they are going to make money even after running a company about a year. Whenever we focus on money the idea to start the business or the creativity is killed. Their aim is to solve the search problem in the internet world. There are no banners, no flash adds, no unwanted pop ups, hyperlinks nothing u can see in the world most popular site.

Later as agreed with Venture capitalist, they recruited Schmidt as a CEO to run the business. So that they can give focus more on innovation. In Google we can spend 20% of time for our own ideas, in fact if they like the idea, these guys will allocate resource for our own projects. Google News is an idea by Bharat an Indian where we can read all the news in one page.

Still they are not making any money out of it, but they liked the idea and it got implemented.

"Challenge with Microsoft" This is quite interesting part.. Once upon a time there was a thought that in reality no one can compete with Microsoft or not even go near to the Giant. Microsoft had a Wonderful strategy where they either sidelined or killed the competitors all the way in the Desktop OS Platform. Even Shiv Nadar from HCL has regretted in one of the interview, in 1980’s how they lost the space to Microsoft in the OS Market.

I don’t know how many of them like him has been wiped out around the world. Linux and Mac are still there but not strong enough. For e.g. when I went to buy a personal computer in a retail Shop at India whether HCL, Compaq, Dell or Toshiba all are just coming out Windows OS. What is good and bad about it?

Ideally a consumer should be the King in any market not the producer. It is good for both the consumer and the producer. Consumer will be benefited with competitive price and high quality. Producer can benchmark their performance with competitors and it is a fuel makes things better and better and better...

Live example for this is recently released Windows7 OS for Mobile by Microsoft, Earlier Windows mobile OS is a flop , what made them to come out with brand New Win7 for mobile with awesome UI and rewritten everything from scratch. Would they have invested so much money if there no such things like Android 2.2, RIM, Symbian, iOS available in the market? My answer is strong no. Probably they may release better version but they might have taken their own sweet time to release win7.

I am not against Microsoft, I love, and I admire the world most talented bunch of people who works at Microsoft. But they cannot sleep with the past glory.

It high time for Microsoft Sales and strategy team to create a feeling among consumers that, they are not using windows Desktop OS just by chance...it is by their choice... "Own choice"

Otherwise it is going to be another tortoise and Rabbit story "Google is chasing man"

Finally this is what you can interfere from the book...They are various ongoing secret projects in the field of automobile, Genetics, Competitive products for MS Desktop OS and Microsoft Office, Clean energy and so on..

Where the breadth is huge..

Still Gates wonder, how to tame these Google guys! We got "Bing"

However we are going to be the benefiter in this game... As a consumer we can expect much more innovative, cutting edge technology, Quality products with less price...

Oops! I am getting late for the meeting! Awesome MS outlook...Thank god I got the prompt...

Jay Make correction as discussed...Message from the Blackberry

On the way I should be able to edit this document...that's my android... :)-

Thank you

Diwali Shopping

I would like to dedicate "Dilwali shopping" to my sister , Best friends and the old lady who has offered me the free spark to write " Diwali Shopping"

                                                                 "Happy Diwali shopping"

It is around 8:30 PM just a day after diwali, the busiest place in Chennai called pondy bazzar is so calm and with no crowd. Suku, Rahul and krish had just completed the shopping and stepped in to the Saravana bhavan hotel.  They started tasting Rava Dosa, Sambhar vada , Mini idlis .. all south Indian Stuffs.Suku said wow !! “Awesome sambhar daa ,  I loved it” I am up to the neck !!

They just stepped out of the hotel and the empty road prompted them to go for a little walk..Suku Said “hey I need some Tamil books to read” Jaku & Krish nodded since there tummies are full, though they feared, it is going to rain due to Jal jill Cyclone at Chennai.

Suku bought some Chiclets in petty shop just outside the hotel, when he is about keep his wallet back in to the pant pocket. A stable unclean young woman in ragged clothes crossed both Rahul and Krish and approached suku and said Ayya..(means sir) I haven’t ate anything from the morning ,I am feeling hungry , please give me some money..Suku thought for a moment and said ok get some food I will pay for that..she said ,Ayya they won’t allow me inside this hotel. Suku quipped J “ are u expecting food from saravana bhavan ? and gave 20 Rs as there is no fast food counters in and around petty shop..

Suku told his friends, I know she is going to drink liquor with this money but still what to do? Immediately they were circled by another two beggars, in fact beggars are excited upto the air like a  “G6 J” after watching suku’s response to the previous woman. Suku told Rahul, hey give something to that old lady .I do not have change. Rahul opened his purse and took 2RS coin to offer..

The old lady started shouting at rahul..he was shocked!!

Generally rahul used to give some coins to the beggars, it is a habit he learned from his MOM , Though he doesn’t like to encourage beggars. His mom advised him to put some coins to the beggars from the childhood..Once he was asked at the temple, Mom why you are making me to do this? What we are going to gain from this.. She replied back, Son what we are going to lose? by giving this change to the beggars and he has developed some soft corner for the beggars especially those who are physically challenged.

Once he was not successful in the campus interview, lost his first love, when unable to meet his parents expectations and so called 4years friends left to US without even informing him..he felt deeply depressed..and thought why should I exist, when I am not useful to any one ?  then he realized the symbiotic relationship what he has developed with the physically challenged beggar in the railway station platform over the period of four years..where he used to commute to college.

Up to that moment he thought, the beggar exists because of him.Now he feels that, he also wants to exist because of that beggar. Something flashed in his super screen..”Tomorrow he might expect me”   He was addicted to the feeling, when someone getting brighten or lighten up by looking at his face..He used to look straight in to his eyes and give coins from the purse and leave that place with the gentle smile.it has helped him to shift the mood in a positive way and move forward..

But today he was wrecked and taken aback.Rahul never got such response earlier for 1 or 2 RS coins from the beggars and the old lady started cursing all the three.. I don’t want 2 RS ..u have it with you..u fellows are ..  They don’t want to stay over there and started moving from that place without even giving 1rupee coin to other beggar who was there..

After a short pause, Krish said, see that’s why I never give money to beggars, even if I want to help I would give that money to some charity or social organizations. There discussions went on ups and down in the society,Bill gates, warren buffet, charity , sujatha’s story about own mistakes and so on…. Sky started drizzling slightly on the empty path way of the pondy bazaar.. by chance suku met his ex –colleagues after long time and started chatting with them as usual like a bottoms-Up bottle of enthusiasm J

Rahul and Krish had taken another two steps and waited for suku to join.

In the continuation, Krish started explaining to Rahul about the work culture in Imacro Tech, where he works..it went on to a peer pressure, happiness, appraisal etc..Krish explained how one needs to find his own path, own track to success.. Otherwise, how one will miss the happiness in the journey of success.. Rahul just nodded for everything. After a moment of silence, Rahul just cleared his throat and asked..Krish.. do u think 2Rs is little less?

No daa.. Krish replied with very assertive tone..

See Rahul , the bad thing is, The beggar rejected the money but the good thing is

The Beggar succumbed to the Peer pressure, Not you..It is not You..

Buddy just keep it up..Be yourself. “A strong mind with light heart”

At the right time, Suku just joined back with a cigarette in his left hand..”sorry folks last two puff’s”

Krish starred and shouted, “What’s wrong with you man?” You said, you just quit this about a week ago….Suku faced Rahul and said, Actually I don’t want to smoke da but we met after long time and How can I say No..you see it is drizzling also..he confessed with low tone at Rahul.

I shouldn’t have learned this habit due to friend’s pressure, now I am struggling to come out of that and made him a passive smoker (a person who involuntarily inhales tobaccos smoke exhaust particles).

But don’t do it in the room..even if it is going to rain now.. It is against our room ethics and policy dated 20th October..isshhhhhh..Now rahul inhaled the steam of anger from the other side..through ears!!

He quickly interrupted before it turns in to an argument, let us move fast daa.. , yaa it is going to rain now for sure.. and they started Jogging towards Suku’s new flamingo red fiat Linea..

“Front seat for me “  J !! krish pushed Rahul to grab the steering..

All three reached home at 11 PM and before going to bed Rahul updated the room To do list board header with the following krish words..

“Be Yourself, A Strong Mind with Light Heart”

Thank You
Jay

A unpublished short story...

Few years back... i wrote this story for a competition. Unfortunately that event was cancelled and it becomes a piece of paper slept at my desk... like many other piece of thoughts slept at my....

Here it goes...

                                             Growing Everyday… with a Smile J

I walked along the road, I am sweating, this hard blow wind is frying me, go away sun please I murmured …I cannot say loud in the public at Chennai – Election buzz carried away in all the corners ….huh
I think some puncher shop owner might put nails on the road in order to increase the revenue @ recession time; I struggled to pull the 108 Kg bike even on the plain road, There is no place available on both sides of the road to park my vehicle…I want to take water at the earliest…no hope for that.
I am sure I need to walk at least 1 more KM to touch the high way, somehow I managed it without a drop of water. Sun followed me religiously in all the way. I parked the vehicle and ordered for a water bottle.
It cost RS 20 per liter…Reason is simple The shop is on  the IT highway…People started using the word IT more generously for everything…from vegetable vendor to my house owner.
I had the water and parked the vehicle in the same shop.  Hell’ It is just 9:45 am but the temperature might be around 40°C I am not able to wait any more for an auto and thought of reaching office by walk which is just an another 1.5 KM in the highway ..the great IT highwayJ…people used to call like this..as if there is no other company on the road. yaa but still the majority of companies might be in IT.
Tall building covered with shinny glasses started slapping on my face again and again all the way…
I thought why architects don’t think something different to attract commuters on the road; in fact it is distracting and raising the global temperature.
Do they know? The raise of 2 degrees Celsius average global temperature might be reached within 2050, if there are no concrete steps taken to prevent the global warming. Sea level raise was predicted between 23 CM to 48 Centimeters due to the same. Waiting for the good government climate policy is not going to help us to avoid catastrophic climate changes. We are going to face shortage of water and 20-30% of all plant and animal species at increased risk of extinction if temperatures rise between 1.5-2.5C, Agriculture business fed by rainfall going to be in Vain and it will cause multiple ripple effects… whose responsibility to save this earth?  Whose responsibility to preserve this nature? Screech…. Someone horned and yelled at me …go... left… man... voice and vehicle dimmed slowly..
Oh my god why I am thinking like this? All of this I never thought when I skim thru the News papers or TV any time in my couch at home. Go fast Rahul!  You have a meeting @ 11am.. I said to myself…and started jogging ….                                                                                                                                                                   I almost reached my office … it is just 10:10. I took a sip of water to wet my mouth and saw the same sun which followed me tried to fry the small plant near by the gate. I felt the same way an hour before…  I opened the bottle and poured the remaining water to the saplings. Said  “Go Green and entered inside the gate. Now the sun is struggling to follow me and the wind is relatively coolJ
On the return I saw the plant survived and it is growing every day …with a smile.
Now it is bringing smile on my face every day when I enter in to the office and it will do the same job for so many in futureJ.

what is the best smart phone for young professionals in India?

After carefully analysed the options available in the range Rs 10000 to 14000 i just landed with 3 options samsung corby pro , LG optimus , Samsung galaxy 3 (i5801). Though Nokia express music dropped the price and E series have given tough competition in my thought process.

The best - Samsung galaxy 3 (i 5801)

Why ?

1. first one Android 2.1 Eclair, believe it, It is really cool with 70000 free applications available in the market. 5/5

2. Touch and qwerty key board.. though it is available in all the smart phones..this is cool with swype option ..i can type my mails very easily and also view/ edit word , xls , ppt attachments .5/5

3. pretty decent camera with 3.2 Megapixel with all the options and decent user interface ( cool panoramic and action shots. 5/5

4. Music player /FM is really good but u cannot expect too much loud speaker volume. It is very cool when i am using headphones..those who want very loud noise..this is not the one..it is clear and gentle i would give 4/5.

5. Design and atheistic..cool cool cool ...wow sleek ..silver design ..back black panel with Google..awesome colorful display for just 12000 Rs..though it is not amoled... 5/5

6. Battery ..Man here is the concern..when u download so many stuffs ..installing applications..u will easily run out of a battery..i can guarantee for 24 hrs with my experience.. It is needs to be daily charged...
Otherwise u r gone ..dont worry u have cool android application...it will alert u ..hey i am running out of charge..pls charge me :) ... 3.75/5 i have given low score since in nokia i used to charge once in 3 or 4 days..But it is not nokia smart phone ...dont have any clue about E series charging..routine

7. DVD player .. I watched movies in the phone ..wow the clarity is very good. I would give 5/5

Go for it , if your price range is below 15000RS.

Overall satisfaction and value for money:

Yes 5/5

No doubt in that.. i bought it for 12000 RS with 2GB free card. I replaced with 2GB with 8GB by giving another 750 RS ( it is expandable up to 32GB )... i feel great about using the phone and worth for money...

Regards,
Jay

As few of my friends were like to know why not the other models has been chosen..I included the below part..

why Not ??

E - series..This was my initial choice , when i started looking for Mid range smart phones..it's cool with all the features like document view / editing ,Qwerty key pad with low price starting from 9000RS...very attractive for those who want to move from a normal phone to SMART phones...

But some one who are ready to pay another 3000 for android 2.1 ... 3.2 Mega pixel colorful camera instead of 2 mp in e series this is not the one ...E series doesnt have GPS , whereas galaxy have GPS , Layer , Maps etc..etc... Symbian OS is no way near to Android 2.1

I would give E series...4.5 /5 ( for one reason i had given high value it has value for money and true business phone)...

Nokia Express Music ..pretty old model dont go for this since they dropped price from 18000 Rs to 15000Rs and free 8GB card...stylus features are outdated now a days..Galaxy have much more advanced hand writing features and u can get 8 GB card for 750Rs... they are claiming colorful display ..but in actual it is not so..i have seen the display in my friend nokia express music phone..no way comparable to samsung...

I would give 4/ 5

Samsung Corby PRO: It is cool phone available in the market for 10,000RS , colorful , Qwery key pad
3 MP camera but the OS is JAVA..no android ..It has only document viewer and dont have document Editor

I would give 4.5 /5

LG Optimus: It has all the feature of samsung galaxy 3 with the same rate except one ..the OS is Android 1.6
But they are claiming we can upgrade to 2.1 ...Now a days Google going for Android 2.2 ( fryo) ..so i thought it is better to go for atleast Eclair 2.1 instead of old version

Atheistic looks is not so good ..just a Square form type phone ...Not like a sleek silver Galaxy 3 :)-

I would give 4.5/5

Other Models:

Motorola Mile stone , HTC wild , Sony Ericson's mini PRo are not fit in to the budget of below 15000, Hence it has been ruled out.. and they do not have any competitive smart phone in the above market segment in the range ( 10000 to 14000)..However i heard some good reviews Soni ericson's X peria pro ...But it doesn't have document editor.

Hope the above information will help you to choose the best smart phones... especially who are moving to the first smartphones...the beginners

Jay
